It has been 2 weeks since I visited Siquijor, it was my last stretch before the tropics summer end. I have simply fallen inlove with the place, the people and its simplicity and beauty. BF’s mother hails from this place and regularly visits Siquijor. So through her we met different people, young and old. Sure Siquijor is a fun place to be for travels and adventure but I believe that Siquijor’s people made this place more beautiful and lasting.
The Sisters
There is nothing more wonderful when you age beautiful with your sister. BF’s mom, Marlina and her sister Dada, are two beautifully aged woman reflected wisely through the pages of their childhood in the sceneries of Siquijor. They have one roots and is now branching out separately. An image of one who moved away and another who stayed. Stronghold of their families but children again when they are together.
The Relatives
Estranged for a long time from his relatives since he has visited only a few times. BF rekindles the camaraderie of his cousins and various aunts and uncle who shared their stories of the mishaps and adventure of his mother. They gave us the funny stories of their childhood, an image of simplicity and joy. Hearing these stories makes my heart swells.
The Neighbors
Siquijor is a typical province that when one familiar face arrives, they forget all their cares and worries and greet you warmly. They accommodate to your every need and is willing to give a tour, lend you their laughs, caress you with their stories and touch your hearts with their genuine simplicity and goodness.
The Children
Like most people, children have a special place in my heart. Their beautiful and pure hearts uncorrupted and untainted innocence simply gives you the joy. The children of Siquijor lived simply. Their paradise is their beautiful place. Some of them dream a big city life but I hope that this simple joy of being a child in Siquijor lives on. Sure the careers and life accomplishments matters but for me when I retire at home, the homiest I can be is when I am lost in my thoughts of my childhood untamed and unstained.
The Random Strangers
The Peculiar Character, Amparo Maguinsay, once a politician, a president of the Red Cross and Catholic-educated with grammatically perfect English. She has now retired and owns a very small store near the church of San Juan. An image of an accomplished woman who retires to simply just selling a variety of stuffs, content and happy.
The Guard, a grandmother, Linda and her grandchild, ChaCha, who lives near the 400-year old Balete Tree. I marvel at the tree, the information Ate Linda gave. And I adore ChaCha for being so friendly with kisses on my cheeks and waving her goodbyes merrily to me.
The Lady in the Window, I took a picture of her and she smiled. She then waved and thanked me. I should be thanking her but she made her move first. Generous I must say.
The Travelers
We are not the image of Siquijor but the beautiful place made it more romantic for us. I love BF more ! Mushy (colored for the views) :)
